NHS Retirement Fellowship launches Member Support Fund

We are delighted to announce that we have launched our Member Support Fund, previously known as our benevolent fund, to help our members when life becomes difficult and unexpected financial challenges may arise.

The Member Support Fund offers one off grants of up to £1,500 to help with emergency financial needs, wellbeing support, essential home repairs, caring responsibilities, bereavement support and other unforeseen challenges.

This newly re-launched fund reflects the Fellowship’s long standing commitment to members’ wellbeing. Supporting members is at the heart of everything the Fellowship does and the fund ensures that help is available when it is needed the most.

While the fund has limited resources and cannot support every request, each application is assessed carefully, compassionately and in confidence on a case by case basis. Members applying must have held membership for at least 12 months and meet certain eligibility criteria. Honesty and trust are central to the application process.

Speaking about the Member Support Fund, Mike Seaton, Chief Executive of the NHS Retirement Fellowship, said:

“We have shaped our new fund following feedback from more than 300 of our members, via an engagement and consultation exercise. I would like to personally thank them for their input and commitment to helping us deliver what is an important part of our wellbeing offer for our members.

“We know that life can change quickly and helping our members at times of urgent need is extremely important to us. Previously, for example, we have been able to help with replacing a boiler and providing mobility aids. The Member Support Fund will ensure that we can continue to offer this practical support. I want our members to know they are not alone when facing financial difficulties.”

Applications are simple and confidential. Once received, the Fellowship will contact members to discuss next steps and will provide a decision as quickly as possible.

Members who receive support may be invited to help raise awareness of the fund through anonymous publicity, approved by them in advance.

Alongside the launch, the Fellowship is inviting members, supporters and friends to donate to the Member Support Fund. Contributions help ensure the Fellowship can continue offering vital assistance to those who need it most.
