Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the NHS and the 40th anniversary of the
Fellowship in Wales
In additions to numerous local events organised by local branches, three main events were organised to celebrate both the 70th anniversary of the NHS and the 40th Anniversary of the Fellowship,
The first celebratory luncheon took place on Wednesday 11 July 2018 at the Oriel Hotel, St Asaph for branches in the North. Opened by the Mayor of St Asaph, Cllr. Colin Hardie, 90 Fellowship members and guests heard inspiring speeches from Margaret Moffat, NHSRF Chair, Ken Jarrold CBE NHSRF Patron, Dr Peter Higson OBE, Chair Besti Cadwaladr HB and our own CEO, John Rostill CBE. Exhibitions on show included our own Fellowship and the Heritage Lottery stands. The event concluded by the entire company congregating on the lawn for a mass photograph (above)
The second event took place on Wednesday 25th July 2018 in Tregedar where Aneurin Bevan began his career as a Councillor. The council chamber is maintained in its original form and members and guests were able to view and sit in the chair occupied by the great man. This special event was officially opened by the Mayor of Tredegar, Cllr. Haydn Trollop which began a series of speeches by a list of speakers which included Margaret Moffat, Dr Andres Goodall, Director General Health and SS and CEO of the NHS in Wales who spoke of a healthier Wales and a 10 year plan. Nick Thomas-Symonds MP, Shadow Secretary Minister and Aneurin Bevan’s biographer who congratulated the Fellowship on its 40th birthday. Speeches were concluded by a motivating presentation by John Rostill. This event was for branches in the South and was attended by some 120 members and guests.
In addition to the main NHSRF exhibition and the Heritage Project stands, the Gwent and Cardiff branches, as a result of a great deal of planning and preparation by both Marilyn Beardmore and David Manning respectively, set up stands which depicted the past in various forms and were extremely well received.
